At AMSilk we turn lab-grown silk proteins into an entirely new class of biotech produced yarns that surpass traditional yarns in numerous ways. AMSilk yarns combine superior technology and outstanding quality with an unparalleled ecological profile. Derived from pure silk proteins, AMSilk yarns have a luxurious touch and feel, are completely biobased (DIN EN 16640), fully recyclable or verifiably biodegradable (OECD 301B) at the end of their lifecycle, leaving no microplastics behind. These yarns remove the limitations of existing materials and offer apparel brands unimagined opportunities to reinvent fashion.

At AMSilk, we are redefining the future of materials by using cutting-edge biotechnology to provide scalable, high-margin solutions that address global market demands. Our biotech produced yarns combine industrial scalability, superior performance, and significantly lower resource consumption.

Our ISO-compliant comparative life cycle assessment has shown that the upscaled production of our AMSilk fiber uses less water, requires less land and emits less carbon dioxide than conventional silk. Our biofabricated proteins and fibers are based entirely on renewable carbon, eliminating the issue of microplastics. Technically, AMSilk yarns go beyond earlier bio replacements known to the material industry. By the use of today’s most advanced science and technology – including AI-driven protein engineering that allows customization at molecular level and precision biofermentation – we deliver biotech produced silk protein yarns at highest industry standard that offer enhanced performance to many existing yarns for traditional and innovative applications.

Yarns for different applications

Our current product portfolio ranges from super fine yarns for silk like premium filaments for fashion and accessories to more technical yarns for automotive interiors, but there are plenty of other possible textile applications in the future due to the exciting properties and adaptability of our proteins. Our yarns have industry standard: Fabric production incl. knitting, weaving, dyeing, finishing can be performed using existing textile machines.

Unique nature-identical silk filaments

AMSilk yarns are produced using a highly innovative technique. The foundation of all our materials is pure silk protein powder, which is dissolved and then spun into filaments through a wet spinning process. This results in a unique 100% silk filaments. Currently, AMSilk is the only company capable of spinning high-quality filaments from silk proteins – at industrial scale -, which can be processed into fabrics on any textile machine.

We have collaborated with market leaders such as MERCEDES, OMEGA, and AIRBUS as well as many other leading brands in the luxury, footwear and mobility sectors, to construct several prototypes and the first ever commercial products.
