This series will focus on Innovative High Performance Spider Silk Materials.

Even more robust than steel, spider silk is the strongest known natural fiber out there. Mass production of this material promises breakthrough changes in the development of high performance materials in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, composites, and technical textiles, among others.  Due to the difficulty of managing large quantities of spiders, it is not possible to produce industrial quantities with their help. Until now, it has been difficult to find a commercially viable process to mass-produce it.

AMSilk owns a technology invented at the Technische Universität München that enables the industrial scale manufacturing of spider silk and the development, improvement or differentiation of products based on these high performance materials. These materials are to be applied in numerous fields to improve existing products or to develop materials for completely new applications, which could not be realized until now due to the lack of an appropriate material. AMSilk is specialized in high quality and high value market segments and relies on cooperations with companies along the value chain.

The unique property-giving characteristics of these new materials can be manipulated in a directed fashion at several levels (protein sequence, covalent modifications, and assembly of different spider silk proteins) to design tailor-made products.
